Comes from the name of the erotic novelist Nicolas-Edme Restif commonly named Retif de La Bretonne ( 1734-1806). His books like the pornographer ( 1769), the perverted country-woman (1784) the parisian women (1787) and especially Mister Nicolas in wich he tells his first sexual adventures are illustrated by women with little feet in shoes. The retifism is by extension a sexual attract for shoes.
